Leading Clients to Success with Lisa
Lisa is the founder and CEO of Lisa Mariette Co, a consultancy that helps businesses supercharge their branding and digital marketing strategies. While the path that has led her to this profession has been anything but linear, Lisa is wildly passionate about her work and ultimately helping her clients succeed. We were able to chat with Lisa to learn more about her journey up until this point, how she authentically markets herself while being an introvert, and what she looks for in an ideal client.
Hi Lisa! Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi there! Well I’m an American expat originally from California who has spent the last ten years living in the wonderful country of Spain. When I’m not working with my clients, you can usually find me on a beach somewhere, taking my dog to the park, dancing Sevillanas or salsa, or simply eating something delicious with friends. We have really good food here and I happily participate in that aspect of the culture.
How did you get started in your field of work?
I’ve actually had a pretty unusual trajectory. I started out as an opera singer and when I decided to leave that behind, I became an EFL teacher. During that time I decided to start my own business so I began taking MBA and digital marketing classes online. My experience with SEO and social media management landed me a job as the digital marketing manager for a travel company where I worked for two years putting my skills to use. And now I have my own consultancy where I help entrepreneurs and companies with their digital marketing strategy and execution.
What are you passionate about in your work?
The thing I love the most is helping people. My favorite thing in the world is when my clients see results based on what we cover during our consulting sessions. They start implementing the changes I suggest and start to notice a real transformation in their business. I also love teaching, and for me, that’s all consulting is. You are answering questions and sharing your knowledge with someone to help them meet their goals.
How do you advertise your service to others?
So far my clients have been word of mouth and referrals, but I’m starting to branch out and use social media more. I always joke that I’m a social media-shy social media marketer because I don’t like to put pictures of myself on the internet or talk about myself or my services all the time. But as an introvert, I need to strike a balance between marketing myself and being comfortable with what I put onto social media. I like the idea of providing value to others and serving them rather than advertising myself because that’s really what it comes down to in modern-day business.
What does your ideal workspace look like?
I love to have an uncluttered space where I can focus on the task at hand. This really helps me to be productive and avoid distractions, but it’s hard because there are a million things to do. One of the great things about Spain is that we have so many terraces and spaces with lots of light, and those are really pleasant spaces to work in. Also, Croissant! :-D
How would you describe your ideal client?
I recently finished a job with someone who I would describe as my ideal client. She is the digital marketing manager for a company, and we were going through their processes as well as examining their social channels, their SEO, and their content strategy. I loved seeing her every week because she not only had a positive attitude but was excited to learn new things, worked very hard, and was always ready for the next challenge. It’s such a pleasure to work with clients like that because you love them and they love you!
And last but not least, tell us where we can find you!
You can learn more about me on my website and connect with me on social media using the handle @lisamariette.co. I’ve also got a Facebook group for entrepreneurs where we focus on the branding, SEO, and social media aspects of digital marketing. It’s called Let’s Get Growing Digital and you can find the link on my Facebook Business page. I love my community as they are rockstars and we are all navigating this entrepreneurial adventure together.
