Ana Dobrevska is a digital nomad who works as a social media content and podcast manager. After a ski accident immobilized her from travel for two years, she was itching to see the world and live the digital nomad life. Currently based in Gran Canaria riding out the quarantine, we were able to chat with Ana about remote work, embarking on an entrepreneurial path, and how she’s been able to balance work and travel.

Hi Ana, tell us about yourself and your work and travels.

I am doing content management for social media in the field of yoga, travel, and wellness. I specifically enjoy working with yoga and meditation teachers and for retreats or anything travel related. Recently I also started podcast support and management and I am enjoying learning new skills all the time.

How long have you been traveling? What started your journey for you?

I had a severe ski accident so I was working remotely from my home country for two years. It's been almost a year since I started traveling again. I have always wanted to be a digital nomad and experience the world. I believe travel is the best life teacher.

What brought you to yoga, wellness, and VA work?

I wanted to love what I do and be a part of a great and inspiring community, but also be able to be remote. Those 3 things kind of brought it all together.

Any advice for someone looking into carving their own entrepreneurial path? Or even finding clients?

Yes! Don't be scared to fail. Then fail better. Then try again. We are so afraid to even start a journey. It is always a challenge to be faced with the unknown. Truth is - perseverance and consistency, as well as your strong will, will take you wherever you want to go. Believe - there is always a way.

What’s something you want to set straight about being a digital nomad that not many people understand?

It is not for everybody. Digital jobs are not shots with a laptop from sunny beaches or mountains with amazing views on IG. Things go wrong all the time and you have to be okay with it.

You’re in Gran Canaria right now? Tell us more about your time there and where else have you traveled/plan to travel?

Currently in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, the plan is to stay here as long as needed, waiting for the quarantine to pass. I had plans to go visit my family for Easter but those are canceled now. Hopefully, if this is over by the beginning of summer I will make plans for a sunny coast somewhere undecided.

Can you tell us about balancing work and travel?

It is hard because you are working and even for a slow traveler like me, apart from weekend trips, I still don't have that much time to enjoy being at a new place, unless I really schedule it. Local meetups really help to make friends and get to know the city better.

Favorite Croissant space and why?

Loved Dojo Co-Working here in Las Palmas! Very comfy chairs, loads of light.

How are you feeling with the recent pandemic? How do you think this will affect remote working?

It is a challenge, especially when you are away from home and you are worried about your friends and family as well as they are about you.

I have faith in the remote work community. People are realizing that so many jobs could be done remotely and the possibilities are growing stronger. Opportunities will arise even if there are struggles in different fields.

Any goals, you’re looking forward to this year?

More time efficiency, scaling up my business, maybe take that yoga teacher training I was planning on before my ski-accident. Mostly enjoying and appreciating life itself and being grateful. The best is yet to come! Namaste.
