Sonja and Gasper are art coaches, enthusiastic sketchers, sketch instructors, landscape architects, YouTubers, and the founders of Linescapes. Their mission is to help other creatives reach their full potential, which they accomplish through coaching, teaching, and, of course, expressing themselves creatively.

We were able to chat with Sonja and Gasper and got a behind-the-scenes look into how they started out in their field of work, the passion that fuels them, and why creative expression has more benefits than meet the eye.

Hi, Sonja and Gasper! Tell us a little about yourself.

Wer are landscape architects, artists, and art coaches. We are the founders and creators of Linescapes where we help creatives overcome the obstacles and pitfalls that might wait for them on the creative and professional journey. We’re based in Berlin and we are inspired by the city’s vibrant creative culture, but serve an audience from all over the world.

How did you get started in your field of work?

We both studied landscape architecture (that’s how we met) where we discovered the love for hand drawing. But while the profession was moving into the use of digital drawing, we continued to sketch by hand in our free time. What we produced, we shared online and soon discovered there is an audience interested in drawing. That's when we started Linescapes.

At first what we were teaching were drawing techniques. But slowly we started noticing there is a side benefit to drawing—it affected our everyday creative life. Drawing helped us in all our creative endeavors, from art to problem solving. This has led us to explore the challenging topics that are common to all creative professions such as creative blocks, lack of inspiration, dealing with criticism, burnout, routines, and fears that prevent us from growing as creative people. By overcoming these challenges ourselves, we discovered a way to help others.

What are you passionate about in your work?

There are so many things we are passionate about! Color, lines, shapes…. But mostly we are inspired by seeing others improve and grow—creatively and personally.

What we also enjoy about our work is the flexibility. We are able to connect with our audience from wherever we are and whenever we want. In 2020, we launched our first coaching program called Creative Compass, which allows us not only to meet new creative people but also help them overcome obstacles on their creative path.

How do you advertise your service to others?

Using our social media platforms—Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube

What does your ideal workspace look like?

Lots of space and big tables to be able to lay out sketchbooks and paper on which we write and sketch our ideas. We don’t mind a little noise, since we ourselves get carried away when discussing ideas. We appreciate beautifully designed spaces because we are always on a hunt for good motives to sketch. Also, coffee should always be near at hand.

How would you describe your ideal client?

Our ideal clients are people who are creative in their profession. They realize the potentials and limits of their creativity and want to try different approaches to elevate it to the next level. Since our methods help our clients think, design, analyze, and also heal through sketching they are suitable for people on different stages on their creative journey.

And last but not least, tell us where we can find you!

On sunny weekends sketching in the streets of Berlin. When it rains also in our studio or in one of the coworking spaces. Otherwise, on Instagram, YouTube, and on our website.
